Las Vegas, October 30, 2001 -
Representing a new generation of style for performance conscious consumers,
the latest equipment from Honda and Acura is on display at the 2001 Specialty
Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas.
The all-new Honda Civic Si and Acura RSX are making their first appearance
at the show, each demonstrating unique approaches to performance tuning
along with numerous other modified Honda and Acura products.

Setting the
pace,
import drag racer Adam Saruwatari unveiled his
2002 Honda Civic Si drag car program.

Along with R.J. DeVera
who announced plans to run a 2002 Acura RSX Type-S drag car during the
2002 season.
Meanwhile,
Honda pledged to continue contingency sponsorship support in the
Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and in
select professional drag racing series.
A total of ten cars were displayed inside the Honda and Acura booth representing
American Hondas ongoing dedication to accessory parts as well as
the latest equipment from the performance aftermarket.
Hondas long-standing commitment to engineering and performance
excellence has paved the way for Honda and Acura to become leaders in
the performance aftermarket, said Jim Roach, vice president of the
parts division. From the Civic to the RSX to the Accord, thousands
of people who seek individualized style and performance have discovered
that Honda and Acura cars provide a solid foundation for projects big
and small from accessorized daily drivers to professional race cars.
Fueled by enthusiastic aftermarket companies, tuning and styling options
expand every year for Honda and Acura products. The annual industry-only
SEMA show is the all-in-one showcase for the latest automotive performance
and style products.
Civic has long been the small car sales leader and the potential of the
new 2002 Civic for aftermarket companies is growing at a rapid pace along
with the new Acura RSX. In fact, the Honda Civic was the best-selling
small car in America for the fourth year in a row (topping its next closest
competitor by 61,000 units) and was the fourth best-selling car overall
for the 2001 model year with sales of 323,074 vehicles.
More cars on the road attract more aftermarket parts companies to
produce accessories and enhancements that fit Honda and Acura cars,
said Roach. We view this as a positive relationship and Honda supports
the effort by offering its own line of high quality, genuine accessories.

Last year at the 2000 SEMA Show,
American Honda announced it would support
Adam Saruwataris Acura NSX and
Stephan Papadakis 2001 Honda Civic
drag racing programs.
American Honda also pledged support for the newly formed Racers Against
Street Racing (RASR) coalition, which is now headed by SEMA.
In addition to encouraging Honda- and Acura-powered racers to support
and advocate safe alternatives to street racing, more than $100,000 in
contingency funding was made available at NIRA-sanctioned races last season
to Honda and Acura racers who support RASR. American Hondas contingency
sponsorship plan for 2002 will include continued support for RASR.
