Acura RSX Type-S CART Pace Car:

Tipping the performance scales with 200 horsepower in stock
form,
the Acura RSX Type-S i-VTEC 4-cylinder engine delivers 100-horsepower
per liter and delivers it through a quick-ratio 6-speed manual transmission
and a track-tuned suspension, 4-wheel disc brakes with ABS and 16-inch
alloy wheels. So when CART needed a car that could corral 200+ mph Champ
cars, a modified RSX became an obvious choice to handle pace car duty
for the most competitive racing series in the world. Engineers looked
for ways to squeeze even more performance and handling prowess from the
Type-S through an aggressive shock, spring and stabilizer package similar
to the Japanese-market RSX Type R suspension,
a 4-wheel disc brake package with large diameter rotors
and 4-piston calipers,
a 62 mm throttle body, a short length intake manifold, high performance
connecting rods, high rigidity crank shaft, high-flow exhaust silencer
(with valves that open and close according to the exhaust pressure), and
a compression ratio of 11.5:1.
The verdict?

The CART RSX pace car
delivers 220-horsepower and 152-ft-lbs of torque
coupled to a highly tuned suspension.
