JEFF SMITH'S 88
CRX SI
The
Street Tuners Crew saw this ultra clean CRX SI at the
Nopi mini truckin & sport compact Nationals #5 show .
This is one of the nicest ,cleanest looking CRX that the
crew has ever seen .
Jeff has always been into cars , but now
he is hooked on the Import Scene .
Currently an expert sound system installer
and designer by trade .
Jeff has used his talents to create this
red and black beauty .
Jeff bought the CRX Si
from it's original owner and it now has
189,000 on the odometer .
Of all the mods shown here Jeff did everything except the paint job and
the Seat recovering .
This should be an example ,
if you want it right do it yourself .
What
you see here is an on-going process .
Until just recently this CRX
had a more radical look .
Jeff decided that it was time for a change , a cleaner more refined look
was in - order .
Sometimes it is very easy to get caught up in your project and loose your
prospective .
Jeff decided that he didn't like the radical look .
And the Street Tuners crew agrees that the clean look is the way to go
. A Wings West body kit add the style
and was spayed with Dupont Black and custom red paint .
APC projector headlight , clear corners , bumpers ,
and fog lamps add light to the night .
Bringing the CRX Si down to the right ride height are a set of HP Racing
adjustable coilovers. Added to the mix with HP Racing upper Strut Bar
.
Rolling on Focal 18" wheels and the rubber of choice are Yokohama
Pradas .
As
you can see here the engine bay is one clean set - up for a car with 13
years and 189,000 miles on the clock .
With the original 1.6 liter still in place Jeff
has added all the bolt - ons and then some . To up the power on the single
cam CRX
you have to open - up the breathing capacity.
Starting with an H.P. Racing cold air intake with the addition of an AEM
by-pass water valve for safety's sake , Jeff then turned to an Airmass
full exhaust system .
With the engine breathing better now it was time to upgrade the fuel and
ignition systems.
A B&M fuel pressure regulator with an Autometer fuel gauge as well
as Vitek wires , MSD cap and Blaster coil. Add that to the mix of an AEM
adjustable cam gear and under drive pulley . Not satisfied Jeff choose
various
STR and Aerospeed eyecandy / engine dress-up.
Jeff went so far as to re-locate the battery to the rear of the car .
The interior has seen major attention .
Starting out with recovered stock seats ,
headliner / body panels with black tweed and red flame vinyl dye .
Multiple Autometer gauges with a shift light adorn the dash as well as
the door pillar .
APC speedglow gauges replace the factory gauge inserts .
The HP Racing steering wheel and Levoloc pedals
and shift knob set with the chromed APC fire extinguisher and custom diamond
cut aluminum floor mats finish out the interior .
Now for the electronics.
Jeff is a specialist in anything dealing with automobile electronics .
Putting his skills to the task of upgrading not only the CRX's wiring
, but by adding a killer sound and security system .
Jeff started with the security of his proud car creation . His choice
of defense
is a Phython full set - up . Adding such options as power windows , door
locks , hatch - back release , sunroof control , remote start ( even on
a five speed ) yes remote start on an manual tranny. Jeff is quite the
expert when it comes to automobile electronics .
The next round of mods were on the sound system . Starting with an Alpine
head unit with cd changer , then upgrading the factory speakers with
Studio driver separates front and rear . Then to add the thump a JL Audio
12W0 sub . The power for the sound routes through MTX crossovers and is
then personalized sound is obtained with a Lanzar 31 band Equalizer .
Street Wires were the weapon of choice to carry all these digital signals
to their objectives. Not to rest with all these electronic goodies Jeff
has 18 strobes that light -up to the beat of the sounds coming from this
sweet CRX .
Jeff tells the Street Tuners crew that he is just
getting started. He is out to build the ultimate CRX .
And with that thought in mind his next rounds of mods
consist of upgrading the powerplant to a B20A4
which is a Honda CRV block matted to a VTEC head . And not wanting to
stop there maybe nitrous is in the future . Also keeping an eye on the
show scene , bigger wheels are in the works as well as more chrome and
polishing in the engine compartment .
Jeff Smith has quite a talent for designing this beautiful CRX Si .
Jeff does take all the credit however his thanks
go out to his Wife " Melissa "
and Daughter " Elizabeth " .
Also Jeff has much props for " Shawn "

The Street Tuners crew wishes to thank Jeff and his crew for letting us
into his Tuning world.
Jeff is truly a master craftsman and the crew looks forward to hooking
up with Jeff at upcoming events soon !
