The new Vtec-I engine will garner much of the attention form the press
and this engine is worthy of such an overwhelming response.
The specifics on the Vtec-I are for the 2002 Civic Type R
are
1998 cc 200 hp @ 7400 rpm
145 lb/ft torque @ 6500 rpm
Top Speed of 145 mph 32.8 miles / gallon
As you can see this is truly an astounding piece of engineering. Mate
this power to a 6 speed manual close-ratio gear box with a quicker shifter
and you can easily see why the 2002 Civic Type R
will beat the current champ the Integra Type R
in ever arena of performance from straight line to the road course curcuit
Obtaining the winning status between the 2 can be traced
to the race inspired suspension set-up. With front and rear strut bars
along with bigger anti-sway bars fore and aft.
The 2002 Civic Type R also commands
the braking advantage with larger vented front discs and larger solid
discs for the rear braking duties.
Street Tuners sources who have driven the 2002 Civic Type
R tell of the quicker steering which is something compared to the
Integra Type R. Some how the engineers have
found a way to
improve on the current Champ .
This chassis is the complete package designed
to establish who is the boss in the Tuner world when it comes time for
performance. No other car in this price range will come close to competing
with the 2002 Civic Type R .
One
noticeable change to the interior is the placement of the shifter. The
incorporation of the shifter into the front dash console is quite radical
than most Americans are used to. However from a purely performance factor
you can easily see the benefits to having the shift linkage both shortened
and moved closer to the actual transmission assembly. The interior trim
will be enhanced with Titanium accented dash and console pieces. Complete
with white faced gauges and Recaro seats with red stitching the 2002 Civic
Type R will fit in nicely with any future
upgrades.
Riding
on "17 rims and with a
15 mm lower riding stance this Civic speaks volumes when it comes to styling.
There are tuners among us that hate to see the newer generation design
. But one has to admit that the trend has been in the direction of a more
sleeker sharper profile. And this Hatch fits that billing . The Street
Tuners staff has fallen hard for this vehicle. When the staff saw the
new Acura RSX
we were blown away, but now we have a new favorite in this 2002 Civic
Type R Hatch.
Along with the 2002 Civic Type R Hatch
Honda will be also offering base model 5 door hatchbacks. The styling
will be quite different than the Type R in
that the 5 door will be longer and have different front and rear lights.
Expect
to see the 2002 Civic Type R to arrive in Euorpe
next year (2002).
We can eagerly await the coming of the new Supercars from the Honda / Acura
stable. When both the Acura
RSX Type R and the 2002 Civic
Type R
come to American showrooms to be onset upon by Tuner Enthusiasts.
Street Tuners brings you the new
