Street Tuners introduces the
2002 Civic Type R .
With the introduction of the
new Acura RSX
  Honda has delivered
the goods for the Import Scene.
With Billions Invested in new production
procedures Honda has begun a new path.
Don't believe one minute that Honda hasn't noticed the Import Scene.
The S2000 was just the beginning Next we got the
2001 Civic which is a mere steeping stone.
Now the Acura RSX along with this the new 2002 Civic Type R enter the scene . The Import Scene is big business and Honda has for the last few years capitalized on this Subculture.
The Civic SI as well as the Integra Type R were at the forefront leading the way. Now Honda has started the evolution towards the new generation Civic as well as the Integra's replacement the Acura RSX. The 2001 Civic was not embraced well by the tuning public.
It has many shortcomings however there were those of us who saw it for what it was. The new generation Civic was
a mere development in an ongoing process. The S2000 can be grouped in this same process. The experimental process was brought forth to the pubic with the S2000. Now which other Car manufacturer would go to such lengths to test a prototype out on the public? As with the 2001 Civic being an evolution that is ongoing. We now see where Honda is leading the enthusiasts. Honda will not loose there almost strangle hold on the Import scene. This is a carefully thought out plan for the future. And Honda has big plans that but a few know about, Street Tuners is in the know. And when we say big plans we mean it.
Tuners you will be impressed to say the least.

The new 2002 Civic Type R is designed to be a successor to the already infamous Civic Type R .
With that statement in mind one would expect an elevation in performance from the successor. Street Tuners sources who have driven the 2002 Civic Type R have come away with some startling reviews. Hold on now.
The 2002 Civic Type R beats the current integra Type R in every area of performance. Yes that is right.
The 2002 Civic Type R will be the new world beater. From sheer power to handling the new Type R Civic has the upper hand on the current Champion. The 2001 Civic shares little with this
new Hatch but there are a few important facets that both Civics share.
The chassis which is a basic flat floor pan and the front Suspension set-up as well as some of the interior styling can be seen in both platforms.
But this is where it ends, all other characteristics between the 2 Civics are very different indeed.

The new power plant will be the same basic engine that will be featured in the new Acura RSX . The Honda engineers
have stated that obtaining
125 horse power / liter is very easy to do with this motor.
Of course the Engine is of
the Vtec-I concept which is explained in
detail in the Acura RSX article . The basic engine improvement upon the Vtec effect is the addition of adjustable
on-the-fly cam timing and overlap.
Street Tuners sources tell us the 2002 Civic Type R
will carry 200 horse power at the ready.
Again the engine is now reversed in
direction and also uses an adjustable intake tract to
obtain even more low-rev torque power.
Aftermarket companies are already designing and
developing performance enhancing products for the new Type R Civic.
It will be interesting to see how the intake tract with its variable length tubing can benefit from more tuning as well as the header which now is behind the engine and sits very close to the catalytic converter. In-fact the header is more of a manifold that attaches to the cat, this design benefits rigid pollution standards. The sooner you can get the very hot exhaust gases to the catalytic converter the better the cat works at scrubbing the pollutants out of the air. But Street Tuners has all the faith that the aftermarket community will find hidden horse power in this engine. As the engineers stated 125h.p./ Liter
would be the most powerful engine / liter on the planet. But fitting a turbo behind the engine will be a challenge at best.
However Honda Tuners will
bring out the full potential power of the Vtec-I we are sure of that.
